For the last few years before I came to American Missionary Fellowship I was involved with a group of CEOs and small business owners who gathered together each month to share best practices, to pray for each other, and to encourage a more consistent presence of Christ in the workplace under the guidance of an organization called Convene. Convene is a marvelous tool for people in top leadership to be able to learn from other people who really want to make a difference.
When I came to AMF, I dropped out of the group because its membership fees are a little expensive, but do you know what the guys in my Convene group did? When they met last week, they decided that it would be marvelous to be able to walk with me through these times of financial issues at AMF, and so they are sponsoring me to be part of the group for the next six months.
This is a gift for me. I really miss interaction with those guys, and I really miss the advice and wisdom and strength that I get from them. You see, Convene is learning by experience. It’s finding someone else, when you have to walk down a new path, who has been there before you. It’s a group of very successful businesspeople who struggle with knowing how much is too much — with materialism and consumerism — and how to show the value of their faith without violating labor laws. It’s pretty cool, pretty exciting, and I am so thankful for this group.
