No one likes to receive bad news, whether it be from a doctor, an employer, a friend, a child, or a teacher. We just don’t like to receive bad news. It’s a lot more fun and certainly more pleasant to receive good news. But I ran across this verse the other day: “He will have no fear of bad news; his heart is steadfast, trusting in the Lord.” (Psalm 112:7, NIV)
Who is the “he” in this section of Scripture? Who is the person who would never fear bad news? The answer is back in verse 1, where it says, “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who finds great delight in His commandments.”
So the antidote to fear, particularly to fearing bad news, is trusting in the Lord and obeying His commandments. Then our hearts are secure.
I don’t like to receive bad news; I don’t even like to think about it. But when I read this section of Scripture, I know what the antidote is.
