I’m sitting in Philadelphia Airport, waiting to fly down to meet some people in Atlanta. I have some time, so I’m writing this blog, and I got on our website. I was looking at our statement of faith; it’s pretty powerful. There were three things that stuck out, things I think we sometimes forget:
Number one, we believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. If we really believe that, if that is true, we need to take seriously our time in God’s Word. We need to devour it, think about it, and let it change our lives. If the Bible is a fact, the root of our faith journey – because it points us to Jesus, it explains the Holy Spirit, and allows us to partially understand the Creator – we’ve got to devour it. I think there is a need for that quiet time in God’s Word in each life.
Second, we believe that man without Christ is lost. I think we forget that we’re working with people who will spend an eternity in hell unless they have someone who will share the Good News of Jesus with them. We forget that they’re lost – not just lost in this world, but eternally lost, irrevocably lost – without the gospel, which is the third point that struck me: We believe that Christ has commanded us, His church, to preach the Good News of salvation. When do we share our faith? Do we look at our neighbors, do we look at our friends, do we look at those God allows us to interact with, and allow ourselves to really understand that God wants them to understand that He loves them and desires to cleanse them from their sins and make them whole?
We believe the Bible is the Word of God, we believe that man is lost, and we believe that God wants to use us to help the lost understand the great news of Jesus Christ.
