Psalm 62:8 says this: “Trust in him at all times, O people. Pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge” (NIV).
I think there are times when we hold back telling God how we feel. We feel maybe it’s not appropriate, or maybe He already knows, or maybe we are embarrassed by some of the things we are feeling or sensing and simply neglect to tell God. But this verse tells us it is okay simply to pour out our hearts to God, to tell Him our fears, our weaknesses, and our failures. It tells us that open communication is what God wants for us and that He is our refuge; He is the place where we can go.
Recently, I was watching a dramatic series on the Internet, and I was amazed how one of the characters – a high school principal with good listening skills – could be a magnet for students to be able to share things far beyond the academic world, simply because he was a safe place. God is a safe place for us, a place where we can pour out our hearts.
