At Rackerby Community Church we have a thirty-minute pre-service prayer time. We pray for our church service and any other needs that may be brought to the attention of those who are there. It has been good to see people coming to this prayer time – not a lot of people, but the numbers are growing.
We have one lady I call our sunshine lady. She is a gift from God. After one of our prayer times, she stood up and said, “We need to start praying for Lee and Pam to have a nice car replacement.” I said that was a good idea and left it at that.
I have been teaching the Rackerby people about having a big God. It is easy for me to teach about God and to tell others about a big God, but to live it for myself is another thing. You see, in my mind, for God to supply my need for a car is up to my resources; I have to figure it out as how to pay for a car replacement. God can take care of my congregation and supply their needs, but I have to be a good steward and do it myself.
About a month after our sunshine lady prayed for a car for us, my wife got a phone call saying that a lady who had supported us had passed away. Her son-in-law was talking to my wife, and as I walked into the house, she gave me the phone. He said he had a car that he would like us to have. We asked how much they wanted for the car, and he said, “You don’t understand. We are giving it to you!” We now have a very nice care with only 75,000 miles on it.
At that moment on the phone, I felt so small. I asked God to forgive me for my sinful thinking and not believing He would take care of all our needs, big or small.
The next Sunday at prayer time, I shared what God had done, and our sunshine lady sat there and cried. She said, “I knew that God would supply you with a car!”
Shame on me!
