Mothballs

I stay in the apartment at the Home Office in Villanova when I’m in town. It’s a great little place to get work done and to rest, and I’m thankful for the opportunity that the mission has afforded me to have such a comfortable place to stay.

There was a problem in that moths and silverfish had invaded the closet, which housed my sweaters, and a couple of my prized sweaters are now moth-eaten and need to be thrown away. So I went down to the hardware store and bought a box of mothballs, and now my closet smells like mothballs. But not really; it smells like my grandmother. Continue

The Power of “Thank You”

Today was an amazing day. We had one of our missionaries from the field drive a significant distance – he was from out of state – just to come to the Home Office to say “thank you.” This missionary went around to all of the Home Office people, gave each of them a little gift, and personally said, “Thank you.” He also led our weekly staff devotions on Tuesday, and you could have heard a pin drop in the room when he said, “I really feel that God has called me and told me to come down simply to say ‘thank you’ to you all.” Continue

Home Office Staff

Last Friday was my birthday, and the Home Office staff in Philadelphia gave me a little party on Thursday. It was nothing fancy, just sweet rolls and some coffee, and I had to wear a sash that said, “Happy Birthday!” They were poking fun at me that I was a West Coast person, not an East Coast person, and that I talked funny, dressed funny, and had reduced the dress code down from suits and ties to shorts and flip-flops and a collared shirt in the summer.
