Cecilia Iro-Cunningham serves in downtown Dallas, Texas. The community is a low-income settlement for refugees who’ve been displaced by war zones. These refugees are from countries like Burma/Myanmar, Burundi, the Congo, etc. Most of the population is made up of Muslim women and children. The community has a great need for economic help and a path to self-sufficiency to give them hope for the future.
After seeing the need in her community, Cecilia created a Women Advocacy Ministry to train refugee women and girls with life and job skills to improve their income levels. The ministry enrolls the women in apprentice programs to learn crafting, sewing, quilting, and job training skills. The women graduate from the programs to acquire jobs and some even own small businesses thanks to fundraising.
Cecilia leads Bible studies and prayer sessions to minister the Word of God and prays with the women for sustained faith in God. She also empowers women with conflict resolution skills to provide peace in the midst of the violent conflicts found within the community.
Cecilia Iro-Cunningham became an approved candidate with InFaith in 2019.
Dr. Cecilia Iro-Cunningham has a doctoral degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from Nova Southeastern University. She is an advocate for women's rights and equality.
