Derrick and Leah Pack serve in Palo Cedro, a small rural town in northern California. About ten miles outside of the larger community of Redding, Palo Cedro hosts two lakes and many mountains perfect for outdoor activities like backpacking, camping, fishing, and hiking.
There has been an increase in crime and homelessness in the greater Redding area in the past ten years, and a steady increase in the unemployment rate. There is a large population of young millennials in the community, many of whom are trying to make it through life by “the wisdom of man.” There is a great need for more outreaches that share the power and love of Christ with young adults and young families.
With a number of existing local churches, there is a need for these churches of like mind and faith to work together to serve the surrounding community in a more effective way.
After seeing the need in their community, the Packs began partnering with local church leadership to extend the love of Christ to their community and surrounding county. There are also many rural “outlier” churches that need support, so Derrick and Leah are working to provide reinforcements from the network of solid churches in the valley.
Derrick and Leah have a heart for the millenials and post-millennials in their community who do not feel comfortable stepping into a church. Their goal is to provide a stepping-stone between this group and the church body. “We are actively working with members in our church to do more to reach our neighbors and communities.”
The Packs became approved candidates with InFaith in June 2017.
Derrick and Leah met at Shasta Bible College in Redding, California in 2007, and were married in 2009. They have been involved in numerous ministries in their local church for many years.
The Packs have been familiar with InFaith for many years through missionaries they and their church have supported. This connection led to a desire to join the mission in order to answer God’s call to expand their ministries.
