Josiah and Marlaina Centeno serve in Camden, New Jersey, an urban area often called “the Invincible City.” The area hosts a number of religions, including Buddhism, Santeria, Catholicism, and Jehovah Witnesses. Known for its poverty, there is a great need in Camden for a spiritual awakening, including more ministries focused on the broken and neglected. With very evident examples of addiction, homelessness, and depression, the love of Christ is the only remedy.
After seeing the need in their community, the Centenos began working with a team from Philadelphia to plant a church in their area. In The Light Camden is focused on seeing souls saved and a city changed. The church meets every Sunday, and has already witnessed people turn their hearts back to God.
Josiah writes, “With prayer being our foundation and preaching the gospel our expression, we’re already seeing lives transformed by the power of Jesus’ love.”
The Centenos have served as InFaith field staff since September 2017.
Josiah and Marlaina have been married since 2006 and have three children. Both born and raised in Philadelphia, Josiah grew up a pastor’s son who hated God and the church. With no personal relationship with Jesus, he was surrounded by complete darkness. However, in 2006, they were both radically transformed by the Father’s grace and unconditional love.
Today, Josiah is a full-time minister and missionary, and Marlaina works for the American Bible Society in the Trauma Healing department. The Centenos served together with In The Light Philadelphia for almost ten years before joining InFaith and planting the church in 2016.
