Children/Youth Pastorate Rural Ministry

Ken and Sherry Ford serve in a small, rural community in northwest Washington. The Fords minister through Matlock Community Church, where Ken is pastor. Together they lead Bible studies through Sunday school, weekly ladies studies, youth group, and individual studies. The church has a goal of becoming "a light on the hill" in their community. They do this through weekly services and a food bank, as well as annual concerts and picnics.

Local Reach

Ken and Sherry Ford serve in the small, rural town of Matlock, in northwest Washington. The area, with a population of about 2,000 people, is known for its logging industry as well as farming and ranching.

Residents of Matlock come from all walks of life. Most reside there for the slower pace and rural lifestyle. With few opportunities for work in Matlock, many people are retired or commute to other towns such as Shelton, Elma, or Olympia. The community has a small country store, a post office, Grange Hall, Mary M. Knight K-12 school, fire department, and a church that has been there for eighty-six years.

After seeing the need in their community and being asked to help with the youth group, the Fords began ministering through Matlock Community Church. Four years later they were asked to paster the church. Ken began serving as pastor there in 2015. He and Sherry lead Bible studies, marriage studies, one-on-one mentoring, and discipleship. The church has a food bank outreach that serves an average of 950 to 1,000 people a month. The church also reaches out through picnics, concerts, and special holiday gatherings throughout the year.

Ken served as a Chaplain for Central Mason Fire & EMS for ten years. When COVID 19 materialized Ken, resigned his position due to extra duties in the church.

The Fords served InFaith as volunteers for four years and then as associates since 2010.

Ken was a firefighter and police officer in both the county and city of San Diego, California for twenty-three years. After retiring from the police service, the Fords were led by God to move to the Northwest. Shortly thereafter ministry began to happen. Since the move, Ken has received a bachelor's degree in Theology, and a master’s degree in Biblical studies.

Ken and Sherry have two adult boys, one daughter-in-law, and six grandchildren. Their boys and daughter-in-law all serve in their local churches.
