Matt has been with InFaith since 2017 and serves as both a Field Staff and a Chaplain. Whether facilitating jail church services, helping reentry participants join a local church, ministering room-to-room throughout the hospital, providing pastoral support at church, or coming alongside our first responder heroes as they protect and serve, Matt’s ministerial calling is rolling up his sleeves and coming alongside side people in the throes of life with the good news of Jesus.

Matt lives and serves in Mankato, Minnesota. He and his wife have been married for 25 years and have raised their children in the area. He received his B.S. in from Minnesota State University-Mankato where afterwards he began a 25 year career working in maximum security facilities.
The greater Mankato area is composed of over 200,000 people and serves as the hub for south-central Minnesota. While Mankato itself continues to be a rapidly growing city expanding in diversity, size, and economic business, the surrounding communities revolve around a strong agricultural industry.
In 2010 Matt responded to God’s call to go into ministry, and after completing his Master’s degree in Biblical Theology in 2014 from Bethel University-St. Paul, he joined InFaith’s Gentle Shepherd Ministries. For over ten years Matt blended his pastoral training with his extensive experience in secure facilities to develop a thriving outreach to correctional and treatment facilities in southcentral MN known as the Broken Chains Fellowship. The focus of BCF is to reach people with the good news of Jesus and provide a support network upon reentry that fosters inclusion in a faith community, opportunity for vocational placement, and safe-sober-supportive housing alternatives.
Matt also serves as a chaplain in hospitals and with first responders. As a hospital chaplain he has worked throughout the Mayo Clinic Health System network in southern MN. Presently he is serving as the chaplain with the Mankato Department of Public Safety. As a DPS chaplain Matt ministers to police officers, firefighters, first responders, dispatchers, and the general public at-large. So, in addition to serving as a Field Staff he also is an endorsed chaplain with InFaith.
While Matt continues to professionally work in the correctional setting, in recent months Matt has transitioned BCF under the care of a new pastoral team so he can more intently focus on his outreach to public safety personnel and his pastoral roles.
