Robyn Fischer serves in Spokane, WA; the second largest city in the state with over 545,000 people in the greater area. It has elements of urban, residential, and rural, along with natural beauty in its rivers, trees, and mountains. Spokane enjoys a four-season year and is known for the largest basketball tournament in the world, all the while maintaining a small town feel in many areas.
Spokane has a growing population that trends younger with the median age currently sitting at 35. This population growth has presented many challenges. The poverty rate sits just under 20%, but thankfully the median income is steadily growing. While the area has many churches, a majority are attended by older generations and younger people lack interest. Nearly everyone in Spokane has been to church at some point in their lifetime and most people attend on major religious holidays.
With the growth of Spokane and the trend of young people walking away from Christ and His church, the next generation in this community will have increasing difficulty finding an authentic faith in Jesus. These people are hungry for real relationship which they can’t get through technology and are seeking a satisfaction only found in Christ. The biggest need in this community is for those willing to step into personal relationships with these young people and walk with them to the feet of Jesus. Spokane has a lot of needs, but the greatest is for interpersonal relationship in the name of Jesus.
After seeing the needs in her community, God gave Robyn a passion to reach the next generations for His Kingdom by helping young people enter into and grow in genuine relationships with Christ. She achieves this by supporting local youth programs and staff in prayer, encouragement, and coaching. Robyn also serves students directly through individual and small group discipleship, coaching, and mentoring.
Robyn’s ministry has a twofold approach to reach young people for Christ.
The first is supporting established youth programs. There are many youth groups and churches already aiming to love the next generation. Robyn will be supporting these programs and those who lead them to help them open the door for more students to find Jesus. Based on individual needs in each program, she will provide an understanding place to work through frustrations and celebrate joys of ministry, as well as help leaders and pastors structure and sustain their programs to best suit students.
The second is working directly with students. Robyn will be coaching, discipling, mentoring, and offering spiritual counsel to young people one-on-one and in small group settings. She aims to help each of them take ownership of and find confidence in their own faith, as well as learn how to share Jesus with their peers.
Robyn Fischer became an approved candidate with InFaith in 2019.
Robyn is married to a wonderful man of God named Dustin and has been working with youth programs since she was a student herself. She grew up as a youth pastor’s kid and since then has found her own calling and passion working with youth at her home church, Real Life Spokane. Robyn is currently pursuing a masters in pastoral counseling and is eager to use her lifetime of knowledge, skills, and experience to pursue the calling God has placed on her life to reach the next generation for His Kingdom.
