Roger and Terry Wall serve in the high desert area of southeastern Oregon. The area is very rural, and hosts many ranching communities in the wide-open countryside. The town of Jordan Valley serves as the hub for this area, containing the local high school, a café, and a gas station. Approximately 150 people live in the town of Jordan Valley, with about 600 living in the surrounding ranching communities. Some of these ranchers are an hour or more away, and travel even further for bigger towns with shopping centers.
There are four churches in Jordan Valley: one Catholic, one Mormon, one Pentecostal, and one evangelical. There is a great need for a clear presentation of the gospel and what it means to be a Christian. Many residents are generally “God-fearing”, but don’t seem to have much time for living a consistent, steady life-testimony for Jesus. To reach people in these communities, one needs to take the time to build relationships and be patient.
After seeing the need in their community, the Walls began ministering in Jordan Valley and the rural ranching community of Arock. Roger’s primary ministry is serving as pastor of a church in each community, providing a place of worship and solid Bible teaching. As a full-time pastor, Roger does funerals, weddings, and other ministry-related outreaches in the community.
During the school year, Roger and Terry also lead released-time Bible classes in two of the local schools. These classes complement Roger’s pastoral ministry, allowing them to get to know children and their families who don’t attend the local church. “Several of the kids who come to RTC do not attend Sunday school or church services, so this ministry provides a great opportunity to reach children for Jesus while they are young, before they get involved in the things of the world,” writes Roger. “We thoroughly enjoy working with children; they are honest, enthusiastic, and responsive.”
The Walls have served as InFaith field staff since 1974.
Roger and Terry both attended Multnomah University in Portland, Oregon. It was there that Roger yielded his life to the Lord and was led to serve in missions with InFaith. The two served in southeast Nevada for several years until moving to the north California coast, where they served for thirty years. In 2008, Roger and Terry moved to southeast Oregon to pastor churches in Jordan Valley and Arock, where they currently live and minister.
