John and Julie Lowder serve in small towns and rural areas throughout southeastern Kentucky, primarily in Knox, Laurel, and Whitley counties.
This area of Kentucky is part of the “Bible Belt,” so many residents have some knowledge of God and the Bible. However, the Lowders have found that elementary school children are increasingly unreached, and fewer and fewer parents are taking their children to church and Sunday school.
After seeing the need in their community to reach children with the gospel message, the Lowders began promoting the concept of Released Time Bible Education. Four other couples soon caught the vision, and this eventually resulted in the formation of BREAK (Bible Release-time Education Association of Kentucky). Now, approximately twenty other Christians work with John and Julie to prayerfully provide, guide, and promote Bible release-time religious instruction in a safe, well-supervised, student-friendly environment for children attending public schools.
The Lowders have served as InFaith field staff since 2002.
John and Julie minister together as a team. They are graduates of Berea College in Berea, Kentucky, and John is also a graduate of Calvary Chapel Bible School in southern California. They have three grown children.
