Louis & Carrie Nelson

Louis and Carrie are the founders and directors of Camp Hope located on the Grand Mesa in western Colorado just outside of Grand Junction. There are many diverse communities scattered within the area with a school district of over 22,000 students. Seventeen of the 25 elementary schools are Title 1 schools meaning that they serve disadvantaged and potentially at-risk children. Through Camp Hope, Louis and Carrie with their team, provide opportunities for Bible studies, one-on-one mentoring, and an outdoor mountain wilderness experience to the kids in their community to bring hope into their lives and build lasting relationships.

After receiving Jesus into their lives, Louis and Carrie felt the calling from God to connect with children and families that were struggling in all areas of their lives. For the last 13 years, they have been ministering to children and families in the Grand Junction area. Most of these families suffer from generational poverty, addiction, loss, and hardships of all sorts. These kids are mostly untouched by the church and every year they see more kids completely devoid of God in their lives. By working directly in the local communities, they meet and build relationships with the kids and their families to bring the love of Jesus into their hearts and plug them into Bible-believing churches in their neighborhoods. Camp Hope offers itself as an outreach program to the local churches to help bring the community together and mentor both church youth as staff and the kids in their area.

The Nelsons have served as InFaith field staff since 2020.

Louis and Carrie are both graduates of the Vineyard Leadership Institute. They have 2 children, Morgan and Mallory, who both have served at Camp Hope as staff since almost the beginning. Along with their 3 camp dogs, the Nelsons love the outdoors, helping kids, and sharing the Good News of Jesus to as many people as they can.
