Local Reach
The Johnstons serve in Overland Park, Kansas, a region with a relatively young demographic compared to other parts of Kansas City. Despite being predominantly Christian, there's a significant need for mission work, as many young people lack meaningful relationships with Jesus. With nearly 200,000 residents, Overland Park boasts high educational attainment, yet there's a profound need for spiritual fulfillment. The Johnstons seek to meet people where they are, helping them cultivate authentic relationships with Jesus.
Ian and McKayla recognize the necessity for community and Christian engagement among young adults and families, especially amidst the breakdown of traditional family structures and identity crises among the youth. They witness widespread isolation and disillusionment with the church among the younger generation, highlighting the urgent need for mentorship and guidance. Through their ministry, they aim to present Jesus in relatable ways, addressing the longing for genuine connection and the transformative power of the Gospel.
Ian and McKayla Johnston, candidates with InFaith since 2024, both engage in part-time ministry with local churches, specializing in next-generation and pastoral work. With nearly two years of marriage and several years of church ministry experience, they bring a wealth of knowledge and passion to their calling. Ian holds his Master of Divinity (MDiv) and is ordained in the EPC, excelling in worship leadership, preaching, and one-on-one ministry. McKayla, equipped with a youth and family ministry degree, demonstrates exceptional leadership and preaching skills, supported by her inspiring personal testimony. Their previous experiences with young adults and Luke 10 have ignited a fervor in their hearts for this ministry.
