Local Reach
Sweet Home, Oregon, is a rural community of about 10,000 people in Linn County, located at the base of the Cascades. The area is primarily blue-collar and was severely impacted by the 2008 economic downturn and the spotted owl crisis, leading to the closure of many logging companies and mills. Despite numerous churches, there is a palpable spiritual darkness, including an active witchcraft group. Michael and Karen see a great need to spread the gospel in this spiritual battleground.
The Carusos primarily serve those on the front lines: pastors, first responders, and missionaries in need of a place to "exhale." Their ministry provides a sanctuary for these individuals to rest, recharge, and reconnect with God. They aim to help them feel refreshed and loved by Christ.
In the community, Michael and Karen serve as chaplains with the local fire district and practice the ministry of presence by supporting those in need. They meet people where they are, offering hope and demonstrating that there is always a path forward, regardless of past circumstances.
Michael and Karen have been missionary candidates with InFaith since 2024. As a couple who love Jesus and serving others, their heart’s desire is to be His hands and feet on the front lines of their community. They focus on serving those who serve others: pastors, missionaries, and first responders. Currently, Michael and Karen volunteer as chaplains and fire corps with the Sweet Home Fire District and are active volunteers in their church. These roles bring them directly into the community, helping to grow their ministry and spread the love of Christ.
