Local Reach

Roland and Deanna Broeder serve in central Kansas, in rural areas around Great Bend, Kansas. The area is mostly flat and open, and hosts beautiful sunsets.

Farming, ranching, and oil production drive the local economy in central Kansas, though there are some small manufacturing plants. Residents are middle to lower-class socio-economically, and mainly Caucasian and Hispanic.

Religiously, most denominations are represented in the community, but only twenty percent of the population attends church on a regular basis. Many are completely removed from church, and broken and dysfunctional homes are common in the Broeder’s community. People are “too busy” to have a relationship with Jesus, and prefer to not get involved in the local churches and ministries.

After seeing the need in their community for authentic relationships with Jesus, the Broeders began a variety of ministries to reach all ages. Roland pastors a small church made up of mainly seniors. They lead Vacation Bible Schools, and a Wednesday night kids Bible club called "Kingdom Kids". They also host adult Bible studies year-round.

The church where Roland pastors is working to create more community outreach opportunities to present the gospel. Their goal is to create youth and adult outreaches that disciple and encourage believers to reach others in the community.

During the summer, Roland and Deanna direct Solid Rock Bible Camp in central Kansas, a camp they started when they realized no Bible camps existed in their community or the surrounding area. “Our goal is to have an affordable camp where kids can hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ and grow in Him," Roland writes. “We want to help them come to know Christ and grow in Him. We do play lots of games and have lots of fun, but the main focus of our camp is to teach the Bible.”

The Broeders have served as InFaith field staff since 1996.

Roland grew up on a dairy farm in western Nebraska, and Deanna grew up in a small town in central Nebraska. The two met while attending Grace University, and were married in 1990. They farmed with Roland’s parents for five years before sensing God’s call to ministry. The Broeders joined InFaith in 1996 and started ministry in southwestern Minnesota, where they served for seven years before moving to Kansas. They have four grown children and one child living at home.
