We love to hear of God’s faithfulness and grace being poured out on communities served by InFaith missionaries. One church in particular, Cornerstone Community Church in the Kensington section of Philadelphia, is seeing God work in one of the most troubled neighborhoods in the United States. At a recent worship service, 40 people answered the invitation to come forward to make a complete commitment to Jesus Christ. 14 new believers were added to the church membership. One of the new disciples shared this story. “My husband was a drug addict, he overdosed and almost died. Because of his addiction, we were about to lose our home. I had divorce papers drawn up. Me and my three children had given up. As a last-ditch effort, my husband convinced me to meet with my assistant pastor and his wife for counseling. Then my husband and I started to attend Bible study and church services. The Lord miraculously restored our marriage! Now my husband teaches a recovery Bible study in our church on Tuesday nights. I don’t know how to swim and am terrified of water. God did another great work as I overcame my fear and was baptized!”
The pastor shared this story of a more mature Christian called Dante. Dante lived a wild, sinful life. This eventually resulted in him having a horrible car accident. He was in a coma for 2 months. The doctors told his mother he had no chance and that they should pull the plug. His mother refused. Dante miraculously recovered and in 2005, he was saved at Calvary Chapel. He has now been attending Cornerstone for 6 years.
God can do the impossible. If you are facing a situation where you see no hope, keep on praying (1 Thessalonians 5:17-19), keep on trusting (Isaiah 41:10), and keep on following (John 12:26).
